Charitable trust
There are many charities for children in India, and among them is The Akshaya Patra Foundation. As a prominent charitable trust, Akshaya Patra provides mid-day meals under the PM Poshan Abhiyaan to Government and Government-aided schools every day. It has been in operation since 2000, running the world’s largest school lunch programme.
In the past 22 years, the programme has grown to what it is today with constant support from the Government of India, various State Governments, associated organisations, individual donors, corporate partners and volunteers.
Currently, this charitable trust feeds nutritious mid-day meals to over 2 million children in 22,367 schools. Its kitchens are present in 65 locations across 14 states and 2 union territories of India.
The Governance philosophy of Akshaya Patra as a charitable trust is based on a set of rules, regulations and ethical practices that enable it to perform efficiently. It is committed to the belief that the adoption of the best governance practices is the only way to achieve its mission successfully.
Thus, without diverting from these principles, Akshaya Patra continues to strive for excellence as a charitable trust for the welfare of millions of underprivileged children in India.
